Favorite teachers: Donna Pols, Mr. Hubbard (Short time, but taught us all an F at 60% is better than an A at 32%) Mr. Lulich (If ever u see this, I FINALLY figured out where that $1 went with the 3 women splitting the hotel room. Solution: you're adding 3 and subtracting $2 to equal 5) Mr Goldstein- You taught me a value I use as my standard to this day: Turn in ALL work, even if you fail, you pass. Miss just ONE assignment, you fail, even if you had 100% on everything else. Radical). Friends from 78-82 Hey there. Enemies from 78-82 Well, that was then, this is now, wish nobody any ill will. Love you anyway. Those who graduated when I was coming in Hey there. Still remember those two clowns -- you guys were cool. Those who graduated after me, Hey there!

Mr. Yamagiwa, homeroom teacher (82-83, Div 319!), great geometry teacher. Mr. Goldman and Mr. Hubbard, history teachers, they are why I majored in history in college. And Mr. Sachaj--you may graduate from Senn High, but you'll never graduate from Sachaj. And all these years later, it's still true. We loved that man.

My all time favorite would have to be Elston Elston because "students learn best from the teachers they love." I have kept in touch with her for the past 46 years. Also, Jack Streicher because he connected with students like no other faculty member. Finally, Coach Ellis because he gave everyone a chance to see their potential.

Ron and staff, First of all I am sorry I am so late in thanking you for that great Senn picnic you organized and put on. I thought it was wonderful, I had a super time! The food was very good and beyond what I expected - nice variety, and the band was just excellent and the singer was something else - wow! I really enjoyed them. I know it takes much time and effort to put on such an event and I thank you for doing it very, very much. I hope we can look forward to some more events in the future - perhaps an annual Senn picnic. GO BULLDOGS! Thanks Ron!

It was great to be a part of the big Senn celebration Fri and Sat.Thanks to all who worked so hard to make it special. I especially appreciated the opportunity to roam the halls of Senn again after 35 years. It was really nice of the current Senn students to volunteer their time and talent to help make it a memorable evening. Thanks to all who took part!

In response to Fernndo Harris who commented on this page. Wrestling teams have made great. If you enter the big gym inside Senn High School, you will be 3 award banners for wrestling hanging on the walls. Senn wrestling was outstanding from around 10-20 years ago.

Jonny was not a Senn Graduate. According to Wikipedia: Johnny Weissmuller Bio reads - "Though he was foreign-born, Weissmuller gave his birthplace as Tanneryville, Pennsylvania, and his birth date as that of his younger brother, Peter Weissmuller. This was to ensure his eligibility to compete as part of the United States Olympic team, and was a critical issue in being issued an US passport.[8] (This comment seems to be contradicted by data on his actual passport application—on his 1924 passport application, he listed his date of birth as June 2, 1904, and his place of birth as Windbar, Pennsylvania. His father, Peter signed an affidavit to this effect, giving his 19-year-old son permission to travel abroad to participate in the Paris Olympics and for other competitions in England and Belgium. His passport was issued in May, 1924."

Roy said:   September 16, 2013 5:16 am PST
Your famous alums page omitted Johnny Weismuller, who played Tarzan in the movies in the 1930's. I believe he was also an Olympic swimmer.

Mrs. Clayton was the best. She provided the discipline I needed that I still carry with me today. She was my chorus teacher, but did more than that. She my mother away from home. She had a special rapport with my mother. Every time I screwed up, she was on the phone with my mother within minutes. I love her for everything she has done for me both mentally and emotionally. Thanks Mrs. Clayton!

Ok, so I have many.... JEFFERY KWIATKOWSKI (Senn Prep 7th-8th grade)...was the funniest teacher in America. He would let me get away with murder if he could. Awesome soul may he rest in peace. Mr Plonka,(sexiest teach in the world), was awesome as well. His looks alone made me join the Senn-Times newspaper, and I did. He was very open, honest and insightful. SGT Walker also let me rule the world of JROTC. He was a great man and any and everyone could talk to him about anything. Last but not least, Mr. Carrillo another great history teacher and now FB buddy....LOL

My favorite teacher at Senn hands down was Mr Kaufman, he was my history teacher in 78/79, he knew how to reach us kids and make history interesting, i also have to say i loved Ms Reckett, she let me sit in on her drama class pretty much every day until i was allowed to take her class and she was the only person who has ever appreciated my rather loud speaking voice...= )

My favorite teacher was Mr. Sachaj. He taught me to appreciate creative writing. There was NEVER a dull moment in class. He would let me braid his ponytail. I was devastated when he died and broke down during his funeral service. I learned to appreciate Ms. Harris my last two years of H.S. and even in college. She was tough but it was always for a good reason! Ms. Elston was a sweetheart!!! Had a huge crush on Mr. Mitchell! I never had a bad teacher as Senn.

Unfortunately I go back too far for anyone I knew to be around. I was in the class of 1940 between the depression and WWII. I majored in Art and had great Art teachers. Our art class did a mural on our classroom wall showing the history of Chicago. Wonder how long it was left up.

My favorite teacher was Ms. Brenda Harris, who was my track & field coach. My favorite homeroom teacher became Ms. Rickett when I landed in her homeroom by default, she pushed me to get over myself and graduate from high school! Oh, and almost all the male gym teachers, Mr. Mitchell, Mr. Maggorie, Mr. Blade, and Mr. Blakey, who told me if I didn't learn how to swim he was going to flunk me and I wasn't going to graduate, so swim I did. Class of 1980

Mr. Pasterski was my favorite teacher. My home room teacher. Mr. P took me aside my Junior year and told me he was disappointed with my grades. Mr. P made a bet, "get all B's and I will take you and your girlfriend to any restaurant in Chicago." Of couse I did. Mr. P, I never collected.
